Each very small (micronized) iron particle is coated with a protective layer which helps the iron particles to bypass the acids in the stomach.
These coated particles are slowly released over time in the small intestine where they are absorbed by specialised cells in the lining of the intestine, ready to be transported and used by your body.
In order for iron particles to be called endosomal and be absorbed by the specialised cells in the intestinal lining, they need to be very small.
The iron particle size of Ferrous Forte® Somal is the optimal size (average size 0.3 micrometers) for absorption by these specialised cells, ensuring that a high amount of iron is available to be used by your body.
Digestive side-effects are caused by high amounts of free iron which irritate the stomach.
The protective layer coating each iron particle avoids release of high concentrations of iron which can irritate the stomach lining. The coated iron particles reach the small intestine where they are absorbed; thus no digestive side-effects are expected.
Together with iron, folic acid and vitamin B12 help with the formation of healthy red blood cells and haemoglobin which play a role in oxygen transport in the body. Iron, vitamin B12 and vitamin C contribute to normal cognitive function, reduction of fatigue and to the normal functioning of the immune system. Vitamin C assists with iron absorption and contributes to normal collagen formation which assists with the function of blood vessels.
For Ferrous Forte® Somal, food or beverages competing with traditional iron formulations for absorption could reduce iron absorption by 40 %. The protective layer around each of the very small iron particles prevents it from competing with food or beverages for absorption.
